The eating habits children learn while they are young stay with them for life. Give your child a healthy start by using these resources to teach them about nutrition and good eating habits.
  • Limit sugary sodas and soft drinks.
  • Wash and cut up fruits and vegetables as soon as you get home from the store and keep them in the refrigerator, along with a low-fat dip or salsa.
  • Serve lean meats (like chicken and turkey) and other good sources of protein (like eggs and fish).
  • Choose whole-grain breads and cereals.
  • Don't use food as a reward for good behavior. Try stickers for younger kids, and family outings with physical activities for older ones - like going to the park, to the zoo, or bowling.
  • Don't use food as a way of showing your kids that you love them.
